Capacities, Facilities and Services
The company, with laboratories, workshops and offices, is located in the historic Berlin-Tempelhof Central Airport hangars, close to the old center of the city of Berlin.
In our 300 ft2 mechanical fabrication and testing workshop develops advanced 3-D perfusion cell culture instruments and control devices are developed. The associated 200 ft2 electronic workshop fabricates custom made circuit boards and our IT office develops electronic control software for temperature control, pump, oxygenation and online monitoring systems.
Our 400 ft2 polymer casting workshop develops bioreactors for cell based therapies. Molding cores are produced for silicone rubber molds that are then used in manufacturing of polymer vacuum or centrifugation castings by using volume-controlled two component polymer mixing machines.
The computer aided design (CAD) office uses 3-D modelling and design software, e.g., Solid Works™, for polymer 3-D printing and for metal rapid CAD fabrication.
As an outstanding facility, the company operates a 1000 ft2 clean room area with independent air condition and filtration systems in general and five separate HEPA filter laminar-flow workplaces. The associated hollow fiber membrane fabrication operations enables perfusion media mass exchange systems that are based on patented core technologies and serve as a platform for a wide range of bioreactor products, which effectively address the establishment of cell-based therapies for clinical application.
Our bioreactor families include various types of bioreactors with different compartment sizes and for different applications with up to 1000 ml cell compartment devices for clinical use and smaller bioreactors with 10 ml to 0.5 ml cell compartments for analytical purposes.

Our scientists and technicians develop specific tissue/cell treatment methods and standard operation procedures (SOPs) for cell provision and culture in our quality management and documentation offices. Also, regulatory affair work is supported. A 300 ft2 cell culture testing laboratory is also available.
In addition to the above described in-house resources, we provide technology development in a network with competent and reliable suppliers, including polymer 3-D printing, metal part CAD fabrication, plastic part casting, sterilization validation, and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
Our 850 ft2 conference area completes our in-house facilities providing our customers and clients with quality management system (QMS) training and course education programs. Stem Cell Systems has created an Research & Development (R&D) Management System for design control procedures, R&D studies and documentation according to international standards. The company operates according to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards of quality management.
Audits are provided according to customer needs.
While Stem Cell Systems enables strategic industrial R&D for product development, fundamental research is also possible within a Berlin university cooperation. Research operations can be performed at the Biomedical Research of the Charité, Medical Faculty of the Berlin Universities, which provides multi-user equipment for electron microscopy, mechanical laboratory, metal and plastic work, electronic laboratories, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and histology.
